The Family Service Centre Goa, was founded on 2nd September 1976. It was the foresight of the then Apostolic Administrator, Most Reverend Raul Nicolau Gonsalves, who felt the need to establish this Centre, during a very critical time where family life was threatened by the then powers-to-be, especially when emergency was declared and forced sterilizations were in vogue as part of controlling the Indian population.

The Family Service Centre is registered with the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 under the Serial No. 593. It has its own Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations.

From its inception, the Family Service Centre has made strides of progress. Initially, the Centre had only four departments, which encompassed all the services to be rendered to families. As years went by, some areas of work had to be streamlined and therefore, two more independent departments were introduced.
